Dutch Prime Minister Mark Rutte Meets with Wang Yi

On October 31, 2021 local time, Dutch Prime Minister Mark Rutte met with the Special Representative of President Xi Jinping, State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi who was attending the G20 Summit in Rome.

Wang Yi first conveyed cordial greetings from Chinese leaders to Rutte. He said that the year 2022 marks the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and the Netherlands and is of great significance in inheriting the past and ushering in the future. China attaches great importance to bilateral relations and takes the Netherlands as the "portal" of China-EU cooperation. China stands ready to work with the Netherlands to sum up experience and plan for the future, so as to push for great development of bilateral relations, create benefits for the two countries and two peoples, and inject impetus into China-EU relations. On the basis of mutual respect and mutual benefit and win-win results, both sides should promote high-level opening to each other, deepen the cooperation in connectivity, digital economy, green development and other fields, and work together to promote economic recovery both in the two countries and the world. He hopes that the Netherlands will provide an open, fair and non-discriminatory business environment for Chinese enterprises.

Rutte asked Wang Yi to convey his warm wishes to Chinese leaders. He said that the Netherlands attaches great importance to the opportunities for the development of bilateral relations with the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic ties between China and the Netherlands, and is willing to celebrate the year of great significance with China. Cooperation between the two countries has gained fruitful results and sees broad prospects in all areas. The Netherlands is willing to strengthen communication with China at all levels and welcomes more investment from China.

Rutte said, the Netherlands is looking forward to the Beijing Olympic Winter Games, and hopes to be updated about the preparations and actively participate in the Games. Wang Yi updated the preparations for the Beijing Olympic Winter Games, stressing that China has confidence in delivering a "simple, safe and splendid" Olympic gala to the world. Wang Yi said, the Olympic Winter Games held in China will attract three hundred million people to participate in ice and snow sports and will strongly boost the development of sports undertaking throughout the globe. China will strengthen cooperation with the Netherlands on ice and snow sports to add new dimensions to the bilateral relations. He wishes Dutch athletes good performances in Beijing.

Both sides pledged to co-promote the sound and steady development of China-EU relations.

Both sides also exchanged views on climate change and other issues of common concern. Wang Yi introduced China's effective measures and positive results achieved in energy conservation and emissions reduction. Rutte spoke highly of China's declaration on no more coal-based power projects overseas, saying that the Netherlands stands ready to work with China to promote green and low-carbon development around the world.
