Ambassador Yang Zigang Attends the Opening Ceremony of the First Chinese Course for Officials of Surinamese Government

H.E. Mr. Yang Zigang, Ambassador of P.R. China to the Republic of Suriname attended the opening ceremony of the first Chinese Course for officials of the Surinamese governmen on May 13th. Mr. Roy Narain, deputy permanent secretary of the Ministry of Education and Community Development, Mr. Zheng Guochong, chairman of the Chinese General Association of Suriname and heads of other Chinese associations were present. Nearly 100 officials from the Surinamese Government enrolled in the first training course and attended the ceremony.

Ambassador Yang said that the main purpose of initiating this language course is to meet the increasing demands for learning Chinese among the Surinamese government officials. The course is supported by the Chinese Embassy, the Chinese General Association of Suriname and the Chinese School of Kong Ngie Tong Sang. He pointed out that learning a language is the best way to learn about a country. With learning Chinese mandarin, people will surely get a better understanding of the glorious Chinese culture and the great changes in modern China. He hoped that all the students could function as a friendship bridge connecting the two peoples as well as two cultures in the future.

Mr. Roy Narain, representative of Minister ASHWIN ADHIN of Education and Community Development of Suriname said that learning Chinese will be conducive to get deeper insights into the Chinese culture and strengthen the mutual understanding among different ethnic groups. He appreciated the efforts made by the Chinese Embassy and the local Chinese community and hoped that all the students would finish their learning successfully.

Mr. Lin Shaobo, director of the Chinese School also weclomed all the officials to attend this course in his warm speech. He introduced briefly about the course and the two teachers from Hanban of China. He also invited a Surinamese student who has studied in the Chinese School for 5 years to share his learning experience with all the officials present.

The opening ceremony was widely reported by the local Dutch and Chinese media.
