On May 28th, 2016, H.E. Xi Jinping, President of the People's Republic of China sent congratulatory message to H.E. Desiré Delano Bouterse, President of the Republic of Suriname on the occasion of the 40th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic ties between China and Suriname.

The text of the message is as follows:

Your Excellency,

On the occasion of the 40th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic ties between China and Suriname, on behalf of the government and people of the People's Republic of China as well as in my own name, I would like to extend warm congratulations and best wishes to you, and through you, to the government and people of the Republic of Suriname.

Suriname is an important partner to China in the Caribbean region. In the past four decades, China and Suriname have maintained frequent high-level exchanges and fruitful cooperation. Friendship between our two peoples have been constantly growing. I value the development of our bilateral relations, and stand ready to work with Your Excellency to further raise our friendly and cooperative relations to a new height so as to bring more benefits to the peoples of our two countries.

I wish the Republic of Suriname prosperity and her people happiness.
